If you are coming to Slavonian Posavina, you must prepare for the hedonistic pleasures delivered by the rich dining tradition of this region. Kulen, sausage, bacon and ham are well known products that you surely must expect. Dishes prepared over open fire, such as fish specialists, will delight your palate, and the large selection of cakes will throw in a trance anyone with a sweet tooth. We present to you a selection of ten gastro destinations in our county, all members of the Tastes of the Border Posavje region project, which brings together restaurants that nurture traditional cuisine.

Our gastronomic adventure begins in the heart of Slavonski Brod, in the rustically decorated cult restaurant Uno. A large bread oven dominates the kitchen and it is immediately clear to you that you can eat great pizza here. Excellent roasted veal under the bell, boiled lamb, beefsteak, homemade pastries… are further reasons to visit this restaurant and such is also its beautifully decorated summer terrace.

In the northern part of the city, fish lovers are at the right place in the restaurant Rodino gnijezdo (“Stork’s Nest”), which is near the home of the most famous stork couple in the world – Malena and Klepetan. In the carefully decorated traditional interior of warm colours, enjoy a variety of fish specialties, including carp on forks, carp Orly and of course, the indispensable fish stew.

If you continue a little bit to the northeast, on the slopes of Dilj, to Bukovlje, the road will lead you to the Savus grange. This is an excursion site, equipped with a swimming pool and sports fields, with a wonderful view of the city and with a restaurant where the friendly staff offers superb food. They are particularly proud of their home-made products like – kulen, bacon, sausage, ajvar and peppers in oil. Before you indulge in stew, a perfectly seasoned sausage with cabbage or mouth-watering veal, try grilled homemade bacon in combination with homemade bread as a starter.

We will continue our gourmet journey east of Slavonski Brod.

Our first destination is the Ramarin Ranch, a catering and sports facility in Garčin, with a paddock, a beautiful park, apartments and a restaurant where you just have to order the “Slavonian platter”. Apart from the homemade smoked cheese with chives, your taste buds will be also delighted by the superb ham and homemade kulin of the Galović family. Try the Slavonian horseshoe, a fantastic way of prepare carp and the homemade sausage with sauerkraut. The most delicious food of Slavonia from the heart of Slavonia – can it get any better?! A visit to the wine cellar and a tasting of their wines from their own vineyard is also a must.

In nearby Oprisavci you have to visit the restaurant Kuća Dida Tunje (“Dida Tunje’s House”). If you want to know what an old farmhouse used to look like, you will enjoy walking the yard of this facility, its pond, farm animals and especially its horses. The restaurant consists of several facilities of traditional rural decor. Huge fireplaces, excellent food, friendly staff. Start with pork cracklings paté on homemade bread and continue with pirogues. Oprisavci are situated near the Sava River, so it is well-known that fish stew and carp are in order, but also the perfect shepherd’s stew. And finally, sweeten up the end with homemade jam dumplings.

In the far east of the county, in Velika Kopanica, the restaurant Đeram awaits us. Unique, solid wooden furniture is the first thing that will catch your eye. This is the right place to order the perfect homemade beans! If you want something lighter, there is a juicy perch fillet with kale and potatoes. And of course, the pizza that made the restaurant famous in the area.

Let us return to the road at the foot of Dilj and head into the western part of the county.
When you pass Slavonski Brod, you arrive to the area of Stupnik vineyards, rich in numerous small producers of top quality wines. The Stupnički Dvori Hotel lies at the foot of a large vineyard, through which you have to walk to the top of a hill offering a magnificent view of the area. The cuisine of this hotel will pamper you: deer steak in mushroom sauce, lamb chops with flavoured polenta, duck breast in chocolate and sour cherry sauce, cooked apples with meringues and ice cream… All these wonders complemented by top quality wines of the famous Galić winery!

Take the road west to Nova Gradiška where two top gourmet destinations await us.

The Dukat Restaurant is decorated with many Slavonian details – from lacy curtains, decorative doilies to Slavonian motifs on carved paintings and works of art. Don’t miss out on homemade polenta with sour cream and fried bacon here! The owners, the Arić Family, are the breeders of the indigenous black Slavonian pig “fajferica”, the Posavec horse and cattle of the Slavonian vale. You can buy all their products at the restaurant.

The restaurant Slavonski Biser is an elegantly decorated property in Nova Gradiška, where you will enjoy some very traditional dishes that are popular even outside of these parts. We are talking, of course, about a superbly prepared sarma with boiled salted potatoes and shepherd’s stew served in a small kettle, only for you, with homemade bread!

Now, let’s hit the highway and head back to Slavonski Brod.

Just in front of the town, in Lužani, you will come across the beautifully built restaurant Ribarska kuća. The location of this restaurant, between the vineyard-covered hill north of the highway and the large pond south of the highway, already tells what delicacies you will enjoy if you visit this property. Fish stew, fried or breaded carp, catfish, perch – all with a noble drop from the local wine cellars.
